“Flat” measurements: using clothes for reference
Body measurements
Each garment is marked with a non-gendered size such as S/M for easy browsing, but actual measurements are key. They are provided in the description of each item, and will be more or less specific depending on the style:
-
Shoulders & Chest are the two crucial measurements for jackets.
Shoulder: Measured along the back between the top sleeve seams, stated as a single/max measurement. If you want a relaxed look you are welcome to choose a jacket with a much wider shoulder, but you’ll be splitting seams in one that is too narrow (alla Chris Farley wearing David Spade’s jacket in Tommy Boy).
Chest/Bust: Measured around your chest below your armpits at the widest point. This is stated as a range: if your measurement is at the top end you’ll have a fit close to the body, and vice versa.
Each listing also includes Flat Measurements (of the garment itself) which you can also use to compare to something already in your closet.
-
Open size style jackets & robes have a wide relaxed shoulder, open front, and straight cut which can suit many shapes & sizes. But there is no “one size fits all.” I suggest a max Chest/Bust measurement with the idea that the fit is meant to be relaxed. Each listing also includes useful Flat Measurements (of the garment itself).
Each piece will have a suggested size range, like M-XL for example, to signify it may be too oversized on a SM/XS frame, and too snug on a XXL+.
